Intohimosta, tunteista ja tavoitteista

On passion, feelings and goals (HUOM! suomenkielinen teksti alla)

Even if you stop reading this blog right now, I hope you’ll remember this: there’s no age limit to going after your goals and passions.

Whatever you do, make sure your heart is in it. Being able to interpret your feelings is the key to knowing yourself. For me, sports is a passion, and makes me feel like I am doing what I love to do and what I do best. I measure everything by the amount of joy I experience – that is what keeps me going and helps me get through difficulties.

Even though I’ve always been physically active and  many people would say I have more or less exercised throughout my whole life,  I never thought I would get to the level of fitness I’m in at this point in my life. I’m now, at 33, in the best shape I’ve ever been. Amazing, I would say.

Following my passion in my everyday life has taught me to make decisions accordingly.
When you find your passion and get the hang of it, I say go for it. Don’t worry about the opinions of other people or how to find the time for it within your weekly schedule. All of that will come in due time and you will find the right way to go. Following your passion and doing your own thing takes effort, courage, excitement and energy, every step of the way.

Exercise doesn’t always evoke just positive feelings. There are disappointments too, as things don’t always go according to plan. You have to face these feelings as well in order to keep going. Surrounded by all these emotions, the best thing is being able to share them with someone. That’s why workout buddies, friends and family play such an important role in this. When you share important feelings with others, their impact gets multiplied.

Every now and then I wonder why on some days things flow better than on others, in terms of emotions. It’s only natural that your physical shape is the sum of many factors: your recent workouts, your energy level, the amount of rest you’ve had and the general wellbeing of your body. Even though these physical factors impact a lot of things, a lot is also riding on emotions that you feel on each training or resting day.

Feelings are a sensitive issue and that’s why they are often left to the sidelines when we talk about sports. I think we should focus more on them, whether we are dealing with joy or disappointments. Why was my workout today better than last time?

I think that above everything else, sports and exercise are emotional things. Even the media at this point is focusing on emotions behind actions, whether we are talking about local ice hockey teams’ battles or the achievements of individual athletes.

Negative feedback doesn’t get you far. When we trust ourselves and know we’ve done the right things emotionally, we’ll be successful in sports too. The fact that I am in the best shape of my life now gives me hope for what I do and motivates me to achieve even bigger goals. For me, making it through the Ironman with the best possible results is a big goal at the moment.

When you have goals to work toward, life tastes better and sweeter – whether those goals are big or small. I am working toward a big goal right now. A year ago I never would have believed it .

By having faith in myself, I can also achieve my goal. I hope that everyone can find at least a small goal to work for. That’s how you’ll make the most of your life.

Life is full of emotions, both positive and negative. How you face these emotions and deal with them makes a big difference. At times you’ll find yourself outside of your comfort zone, taking risks and struggling to get by. However, that’s all a part of developing further – those steps are necessary for making progress.

Wishing all the athletes out there great emotional progress!

Some of my friends from around the world shared the following link on Facebook recently. A great showcase of positivity and team spirit! This is worth watching:

Intohimosta, tunteista ja tavoitteista

Vaikka et lukisi tästä blogista mitään muuta, toivoisin sinun muistavan tämän: se, milloin voit saavuttaa omat intohimon kohteesi ja tavoitteesi, ei katso ikää.

Kaikki tekeminen lähtee tunteesta ja tunteiden löytäminen auttaa itsetuntemuksessa. Urheilu on itselleni intohimoa, tunnetta, jossa saa tehdä sitä mistä erityisesti pitää ja mitä parhaiten osaa. Kaiken mittari itselleni on ilon säilyttäminen tekemisessä, se vie eteenpäin ja auttaa vaikeiden asioiden yli.

Vaikka olen liikkunut aina ja monen mielestä urheillut enemmän tai vähemmän aina, en olisi uskonut itsekään pääseväni tällaiseen kuntoon tässä kohtaa elämää. Olen paremmassa kunnossa kuin koskaan nyt, 33-vuotiaana. Uskomatonta, sanoisin.

Nämäkin tunteet on kohdattava, jotta jaksaa jatkaa eteenpäin.
